We will be hosting our 3rd annual Billy Moon Tournament on Saturday May 17th.  Little different format this year.  $50 to enter you can pay at the door.  Guaranteed 2 games and possible 3 games if your team wins the first 2.  We will be hosting Fire Depts from Islip, East Islip, Central Islip and FDNY along with 4 teams consisting of SJOG Coaches, Parents and Alumni.  Each game will consist of Two 15 minute periods.  In the event of a tie we will go to a 3 man shootout.  Clock will only stop on goals and 1 time out per team.  Food, Drinks and Plenty of Fun as we honor the memory of our fallen coach and hero.

To All Parents and Players:

Welcome to another year at St. John of God Roller Hockey.  This letter is to help you get started in the new season.  Future updates will come from your coach, team rep. and the bulletin board on the snack shack.  See our website at www.sjoghockey.com

The season starts the weekend of September 14th & 15th with skate sessions for team placements.

SENIORS          Last Name A to Z Sat. Sept 14th 9:30am to 11:00am & Sun.  Sept. 15th 11:00am to 12:00pm

JUNIORS          Last Name A to K on both Sat. & Sun. Sept. 14th 11:30am to 12:30pm & Sept. 15th 12:30pm to 1:30pm

                             Last Name L to Z on both Sat. & Sun. 14th 12:30pm to 1:30pm & Sun.  Sept. 15th 1:30pm to 2:30pm

PEEWEES       8 years and older on both Sat. & Sun.  Sept 14th 2pm to 3:30pm & Sept 15th 3:00pm to 4:00pm

                             7 years and under on both Sat. & Sun. Sept 14th 3:30pm to 5pm & Sept 15th 4:00pm to 5:00pm

                             Determine ages as of 12/31/24. 

Practice games will begin the weekend of Sept. 21st, 22nd & 23rd.   Expect a phone call from your coach by Sept 20th.   At the practice games you will meet your coach, be given your jersey, schedule, and rules for the season.  The regular season begins on Saturday, September 28th for Juniors and Seniors and Friday, September 27th for Peewees.

Important Notes:

1.   Please remember the penalty for fighting is a minimum of 4 games suspension with a mandatory review by the Board of Commissioners.  All Slashing penalties are mandatory 4-minute major penalties.  High Sticking is either 2 or 4 minutes at the referee’s discretion.

2.   A total of 5 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties over the entire season and playoffs will result in a one game suspension.

3.   No Senior games will be played without two referees.  This is a direct order from the Diocesan Insurance.

4.   Garbage on the benches, schoolyard and the street should and must be cleaned up.  Please use the garbage cans.

5.   No double parking or dropping players off at the gate.   Obey all street parking signs and fire hydrants.  This is a public street and two lanes of traffic must be able to pass.

6.   Try to be on time!  Any player arriving after the prayer, which starts the game, may be benched for the first period at the coach’s discretion.  Please call your coach if you are running late. 

7.   PeeWee Division plays a two and a half minute timed shift.

8.   All players must wear the jersey that was issued to them for their game.  Jerseys will be collected at the end of the season.  You may be charged for undue loss or damage.

9. Mandatory Equipment:

* Hockey Gloves           * Elbow Pads                * Protective Cup           * Shin Guards

* Roller Skates * Shoulder Pads            * Stick with Butt End

* Helmet with Full Face Mask & Chin Strap (NO Myleck helmets)

* Hockey Pants (ALL HOCKEY PANTS MUST HAVE PADDING IN FRONT AND BACK) 

* If a player chooses to wear a nylon biscuit a fully padded girdle must be worn underneath 

Code of Conduct:  Any parent or player displaying abusive behavior towards referees, coaches, players or other parents will not be tolerated.  Players will face suspension or expulsion from the league without further notice.

REGISTRATION FOR 2020-2021 SEASON AND AWARDS NIGHTS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE RINK THIS YEAR.  PEEWEES ON MONDAY AUGUST 31ST, JUNIORS ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST AND SENIORS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND.  A SCHEDULE TO FOLLOW.  WE WILL SCHEDULE TWO TEAMS AT A TIME.  ONE WILL DO AWARDS AND THE OTHER WILL REGISTER AND THEN SWITCH.  REFUNDS AND/OR CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN AT REGISTRATION FOR THOSE WHO PAID FOR ACTIVITY CARDS AND DINNER AT COUNTRY FAIR.  WE ARE REQUESTING A $10 DONATION PER CHILD TO HELP SUBSIDIZE OUR TROPHY ORDER.
OPEN SIGN UPS FOR NEW PLAYERS WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH AT 10AM AT THE RINK.  NEXT SEASON WILL START IN OCTOBER.

To All parents and players,

It is still our intention to resume our playoffs following the guidance from the state and diocese.   We anticipate this to happen shortly after the 4th of July weekend.  All games will be played in the evening (Weekedays and Weekends) to avoid extreme temperatures.  More info to follow


Please be advised the Awards Dinner on May 19th @ Country Fair has been postponed.  In the event we are unable to reschedule by the end of the summer a full refund will be provided.   The season has NOT been canceled.  Fortunately we do not have a deadline to meet.  It is our intention to resume the playoffs once it is safe for our players, coaches and their families.  We hope and pray we will see that day soon.  Should the weather become too warm in the summer months the games will be moved to the evenings.

We will have one final registration on Saturday September 7th at 10:00am at the rink.  We currently have limited openings in all three divisions.  We will fill them on a first come first serve basis.   


 

Registration for  the 2019-2020 Season will be Tuesday August 20th and Thursday August 22nd from 6pm to 9pm in the church basement.  Siblings of existing players may register at this time as well.

NEW players to the league may register on Thursday August 22nd with the current players.   Please bring a copy of your childs birth certificate to registration.  Registration fee is $150 per player.  You can pay with cash or check.  Credit cards are not accepted.
